Measles vaccinations for day care and schoolchildren will be mandatory for children in the future. Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn has drawn up corresponding plans. The minister wants to enforce this obligation with fines. Also, children who are not vaccinated against measles should be excluded from the Kita visit. According to Bild am Sonntag, these plans are part of a bill which the CDU politician has now submitted.
All children attending kindergarten or school should be vaccinated against measles, Spahn said. "Anyone who is admitted there must prove that," said the 38-year-old. Those who are already cared for there should submit the proof by 31 July next year. The proof can be made via the vaccination certificate or a vaccination certificate.
Protection against measles for all children – and fines up to 2500 euros
"We want to protect all children from getting infected with measles," the newspaper quoted the Minister of Health. "All parents should be sure that their children are not infected and endangered by others with measles." Measles Germany
Children without vaccine protection should in future be excluded from the daycare visit. "After all, in day care centers there are children under the age of ten who can not be vaccinated yet and are therefore particularly at risk," said Spahn. In schools, this is not possible because there the compulsory school attendance. "But if you do not have your child vaccinated, you face fines of up to 2500 euros." These should be arranged by the health authorities.
Spahn had announced proposals for a mandatory for May. The SPD also supports compulsory measles vaccinations for children in daycare centers and schools. Measles are highly contagious and can be fatal in rare cases.
Evidence should be provided via vaccination certificate or vaccination certificate. "Anyone who can not be vaccinated for medical reasons, must also prove that with a medical certificate," said Spahn the newspaper.

According to Spahn, there are no costs for the individual citizen due to the obligation to vaccinate. "Pay the health insurance," said the minister of the newspaper. "The measles vaccine costs about 60. A measles infection with possible sequelae, however, is many times more expensive." In the future, measles vaccinations should be possible with all physicians except dentists. "It's about using every doctor's visit to check and vaccinate the vaccination status," said Spahn. The public health service should also take a stronger role in this: "He could offer vaccinations at schools and day care centers."
From the point of view of the EU Commission, compulsory import is not a panacea for controlling measles and other infectious diseases. "Coercion is not the only solution," Vice President Jyrki Katainen recently told the German press agency and other European media in Brussels. "It may work in some countries, but other forms of vaccination seem to be just as effective." Measles_Vaccination 19.45
According to recently published data, around seven percent of new school children in Germany are not adequately protected against measles. In the decisive second vaccination against the highly contagious virus, only Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg have so far achieved the target quota of at least 95 percent of vaccinated children. This emerged from data collected at school entrance examinations in 2017, published by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Thursday in Berlin.
Vaccination rate according to Jens Spahn not enough
Spahn told Bild am Sonntag: "I want to eradicate the measles, but it does not have 93, but at least 95 percent have two measles vaccines, which we can not achieve despite all the campaigns and good appeals." It has been proven that the risks of a vaccine are many times lower than the risks of a disease. This is especially true for measles. "By the way: The very rare vaccine damage is compensated by law."
Spahn's draft is currently being voted on by the government, according to the report. He assumes that the Bundestag will decide on it later this year.
